Ever Wondered What It’s Like to Work at Configura in Kuala Lumpur?
Since 2019, Raamkumar Krishnan has been part of Configura’s growing development team in Kuala Lumpur. In this interview, he shares what it’s like to work as a Senior Developer, which role he’d be curious to try if he weren’t a developer, and his top tips for anyone visiting the Kuala Lumpur office.

Can you tell us a bit about your role as a Senior Developer – what does a typical day look like? Raamkumar: I work in a team with other developers, Quality Analysts, and a Product Owner. A typical day for me involves working on tasks from our Sprint board—tasks planned for that specific 2-week period. This includes developing new features for upcoming releases of CET or tackling those nasty bugs. My role also involves identifying and defining work items for future Sprints—whether it's improving the systems in our code or even refining the way we work. What’s one project you’ve worked on recently that you’re especially proud of? And why? Raamkumar: My team recently released the Catalogue Diagnostic Tool. It’s something we identified together as a need to better troubleshoot the issues our users were facing. Today, we’re seeing the positive effects of what this tool brings—we're now able to address user issues more effectively. It's a win for both sides!
Raamkumar Krishnan, Senior developer, Configura What do you enjoy most about working in our R&D team? Raamkumar: “I don’t want peace; I want problems, always”. Jokes aside, the problem-solving aspect of my work is something that brings me fulfilment. I've had the opportunity to work on a wide range of problem domains. Though challenging, coming out the other side of them has helped me grow as a developer—and that's also thanks to the colleagues I’ve learned from along the way. If you could switch roles with anyone in the company for a day – who would it be and why? Raamkumar: I have always been fascinated by the work that UX designers do. I have had the opportunity to work closely with some of the UX designers in Configura and I have always enjoyed the discussions we had. It’s still problem solving, just on a different plane—less about code and more about how people think and interact, which I find really refreshing. We’re growing our team in Malaysia – what would you say to someone considering joining us here? Raamkumar: Being involved in recruitment, I’ve already had the chance to share some of this with candidates—usually, I highlight what I’ve personally enjoyed since joining Configura. We have a pretty balanced work-life setup—I’ve rarely had to attend to work matters during personal time or on my personal phone. The collaborative culture is another thing I appreciate; people are always open to helping each other out. What would you recommend a visitor must do while in KL? Raamkumar: Well, if it’s a Configuran visiting the KL office, the first order of business is to join the gang for a fun game of pickleball! Beyond that, besides the typical spots like the Twin Towers and Batu Caves, I’d suggest exploring places like Pasar Seni and Chinatown for food, art and bars. Definitely keep an eye out for any interesting events happening around the area too! Members of the KL team enjoying a fun game of pickleball together. |
