3 Reasons It’s Time to Update Your Software

This is a guest blog by Configura Service Partner, Kari Anderson, owner of UX&Kari and TechBox Collective, featuring three reasons to ensure your software is up to date.

three reasons it's time to update your software

We’ve all been there. You find yourself in the middle of a major project with a strict deadline looming, and the dreaded “Update Software” reminder pops up. I bet your iPhone, Android or Google phone does this to you quite regularly, I know mine does. Reminders are great, but when do you act and accept those new terms and conditions?

Get to Know your technology persona

Whichever persona fits your go-to action, software updates—and a strong process for implementing them across your organization—are increasingly important. What’s your persona? Pick the option below that fits you best.

  1. Early Adopter: I make it happen as soon as I am aware of it.
  2. Wait-and-See Adopter: I get to it after a few prompts and reminders.
  3. Didn’t-Even-Know-I-Did-It Adopter: I just ignore it, assuming eventually there will be a force update and it will take care of itself.

Now that we know how likely you are to act when a software update notification pops up, I want to share three major reasons you should do so quickly—with a proper plan in place, of course.

Pause and plan before you click

Prior to implementing any software update, it’s good to have a plan. By starting with your strongest users, you can test the waters before implementing the update across your entire design team. By leveraging a rolling-implementation plan starting with your more experienced software users, you’ll ensure a successful update with minimal disruptions.

3 Reasons to Update Your Software Regularly

  • New features, new features, new features...did I mention new features?!

The Configura Development team works hard behind the scenes to create new features that enhance the user experience. No update means no new features, it’s that simple!

Installing the latest updates will ensure you have access to the newest tools and capabilities. The experience is sometimes like opening a present— there’s excitement in booting up the program and diving into the latest tools and features. I like to think of it as one of life's little extra joys! We all need a few minutes of distraction in our day to play before we get back to designing amazing spaces.

  • Performance matters

Software updates modify, fix and alter your current software program. Updates generally resolve any known bugs and improve the overall software operation and performance. This will make you more efficient and less frustrated. While you may have established a relationship with a member at the Help Desk, software updates are proven to resolve many of the issues you’d be calling the Help Desk for – and let’s be honest – you’ve got work to do! Save yourself time, install the updates.

  • Stay current and creativity will follow

You always want to be working with the latest and greatest data, content, products, manufacturers, features, colorways, pricing, terms, etc. The best way to keep up and stay ahead in the digital planning and design world is by leveraging the most current software. Keeping up is hard to do, but with CET Commercial interiors you have an entire team behind you, and the most current information, be that products and pricing, at your fingertips for creating epic designs.

To wrap things up, software updates are our friend! In a fast-moving industry, you want to have access to the latest features, performance updates and data.

Software, when used properly, keeps your designs engaging and your stress low. While developers do their best to mitigate risk, all software updates have the potential for disruption. I recommend that your company establish a plan to roll out updates in an organized fashion. With that, your design team will be working at full speed with the best technology in no time!
