Importing a Spreadsheet

Last modified: Nov 19, 2018

Spreadsheets can be imported into CET Designer with the Spreadsheet imported from file tool found in the Tools component tab:

To import a spreadsheet, follow these steps:

  1. Click the Spreadsheet imported from file tool, release the mouse button, and move the mouse pointer to the 2D view of the drawing area. An image component will follow on the mouse pointer.
  2. Click the image component in place.
  3. Release the image component by moving the mouse pointer outside of the drawing area or by pressing the Esc key on your keyboard.
  4. Double-click the image component. An Open dialog opens.
  5. Browse for the spreadsheet that you wish to import, select it and click Open.
  6. Your spreadsheet is imported into the 2D view of the drawing area. When selected, you can do some basic formatting from the property box. Use the Sheet selection buttons to control which sheet of the spreadsheet is displayed.

Editing a spreadsheet can be done by clicking the Edit data… button in the property box. This will, however, not edit the original spreadsheet, but rather a temporary file. Once you are done editing, click the Refresh data button in the property box, to reimport the edited spreadsheet from the temporary file.

  • Imported spreadsheets are similar to imported images and do not interact with the Calculation in CET Designer.
  • The import feature will go through and try to handle everything in the spreadsheet which can make it slow. We therefore recommend cleaning the spreadsheet by removing images and empty cells before importing it.
