Aligning components in the drawing area

Did you know that....

...you can align groups of components in the drawing area?

If you would like to position several components on a line, for example a number of chairs along an imaginary or acual wall, you can do this using one of the align options.

Do as follows to align components in the drawing area:

1. Group the components you wish to align by holding the Ctrl key and click the components or by using the Select Rectangle tool.    
2. Click the Arrange menu and choose Align/Distribute. The dialog Align/Distribute appears (see Figure 1).  
3. Select the desired alternative within the Align field.

The different examples below correspond to the options in the Align field, from left to right .

1. Align up

Click the first icon from the left in the upper row to align grouped components upwards.

2. Align horizontally

Click the second icon from the left in the upper row to align grouped components horizontally.

Grouped components are aligned on the basis of either the last selected component or, if Select Rectangle was used, of the selected group's center.

3. Align down

Click the third icon from the left in the upper row to align grouped components downwards.

Grouped components are aligned on the basis of either the last selected component or of the bottom component, if Select Rectangle was used to group the components

4. Align left

Click the first icon from the left in the lower row to align grouped components to the left.  

Grouped components are aligned on the basis of either the last selected component or of the far left component, if Select Rectangle was used to group the components.

5. Align vertically

Click the second icon from the left in the lower row to align grouped components vertically. 

Grouped components are aligned on the basis of either the last selected component or, if Select Rectangle was used, of the selected group's center.

6. Align right

Click the third icon from the left in the lower row to align grouped components to the right.

Grouped components are aligned on the basis of either the last selected component or of the far right component, if Select Rectangle was used to group the components.
